The New York Rangers have used the first-overall selection in the 2020 NHL Draft to select forward Alexis Lafreniere from the Rimouski Oceanic of the QMJHL.
Lafreniere, 19, is a 6-foot-1 winger who was born in Saint-Eustache, Quebec. NHL Central Scouting listed him as their top North American Skater in both their midterm and final rankings.
Lafeniere is coming off a stellar season, where he scored 35 goals and 77 assists for 112 points in just 52 games played for Rimouski. He also had 10 points in 5 games at the World Junior Hockey Championship, leading Canada to a gold medal finish and winning Most Valuable Player for the tournament.
Congratulations, Alexis!
