This past Sunday, Team Canada’s national World Junior team captured gold at the IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship, defeating Team Russia by a score of 4-3 to secure their 18th gold medal at the annual tournament.
Forward Alexis Lafreniere played a pivotal role in the victory, notching 2 assists en route to being named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player and Top Forward. The 18-year old Saint-Eustache native dominated the tournament with 4 goals and 6 assists for a total of 10 points in just 5 games.
Lafreniere is also in the midst of a standout season in the QMJHL, tabbing 23 goals and 47 assists over 32 games with the Rimouski Oceanic.
