Lafreniere and Pelletier invited to National World Junior Selection Camp

On Monday, Hockey Canada named forwards Alexis Lafreniere and Jakob Pelletier to the 2020 World Junior Hockey Championship selection camp roster. Both players were among the 33 invited to the camp in preparation for the upcoming national tournament taking place in Ostrava and Trinic, Czech Republic from December 26, 2019 to January 5, 2020.

Lafreniere, the frontrunner to be the first-overall pick in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft, leads the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League with 59 points (17 goals, 42 assists) in 28 games this season with the Rimouski Océanic. He is one of three players returning for Canada from the 2019 championship.

Pelletierthe Calgary Flames’ 2019 1st round pick (26th overall), is third in the QMJHL’s scoring race with 48 points (18 goals and 30 assists) in 25 outings with the Moncton Wildcats this season.

Canada will play exhibition games on December 19 against Switzerland and December 23 against Finland. They will begin tournament play on Boxing Day against the U.S.
