The Rimouski Oceanic kicked off the 46th annual QMJHL Draft by selecting forward Alexis Lafreniere of the St-Eustache Vikings with first overall pick of the 2017 QMJHL Draft on Saturday at Harbour Station in Saint John, NB.
The 15-year-old product of the Quebec Midget AAA League was the top prospect in the QMJHL Scouting Bureau’s rankings leading up to the Draft. The 6-foot, 171-pounder scored 30 goals and 83 points in only 36 regular season games with the Vikings. Lafreniere was also the 2016 Quebec Midget AAA League’s Player of the Year.
